Barking & Dagenham

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham is in East London on the North bank of the River Thames and within the M25 London Orbital Motorway. The neighbouring London Boroughs are Newham, to the West, Redbridge, to the North and Havering, to the East.

By focusing in a community, this feature aims to provide a real insight into the nature of education-communitypartnerships in Barking and Dagenham and how they relate to one another. It also demonstrates how the partners can successfully contribute to teaching and learning, by strengthening the community and building democracy.

Start your tour of the Barking and Dagenham Community in Focus by selecting Initiatives.

Read Erik Stein's article about this case study entitled Citizenship: the shared agenda.

The Barking & Dagenham In Focus has been compiled as a direct result of the "All Change" project. Please note that this case study is a study of community partnerships in the spring and summer of 2002. Some significant changes may have taken place since it was published. If you would like more information on the project or have any queries, please contact Erik Stein.
