Training & Services
image text for Community Partners

We offer a range of short courses and consultancies which enable students and teachers to engage with the participation and responsible action strand of the Citizenship curriculum. Our pioneering work in this area goes back to the seminal Active Citizenship in Schools toolkit and we continue to offer up-to-date guidance and case studies of active community involvement.

bullet Introduction to Volunteering in Schools
We offer an introductory session to students from age nine and upwards. This could be in the form of a year group assembly, or a one-hour lesson slot, and other options are available. Examples of CSV activities are featured, as is the use of our specially designed log book for recording and reflecting on volunteering and active citizenship.

bullet Managing Volunteers in Schools
This consultancy for teachers suits small clusters of schools interested in using community volunteers and sharing the expertise which they offer. Based on our volunteer engaging programme which has been successfully piloted across England, we offer advice and support on the recruitment, deployment, and management of volunteers in a range of learning contexts in schools.

bullet Developing Community Partnerships
This teachers’ course demonstrates how the involvement of community sector partners and organisations is central to the delivery of the Citizenship curriculum in schools. We aim to provide participants with the knowledge and understanding of active learning pedagogy and models of participation. The course will help teachers to develop ways of building community partnerships and establishing relationships with voluntary sector organisations.

bullet Training Community Volunteers to Work in Schools
This is a flexibly timed training/induction programme for volunteers intending to work in schools and on school/community projects. Key aspects such as health and safety, risk and insurance and CRB checks are addressed. The programme can be customised to have a specialised focus, for example on supporting integrated activities for both disabled and able-bodied.

Comments

"I recently attended the CSV Student Leadership course and thought I'd let you know how life-changing it has been for me.

I feel so proud of myself to have learnt all those leadership skills. I have now offered to help organise a group during school time and helped to teach and pass on everything you taught me to younger students and hopefully they will pass them on."

Esther Williams, Year 8, Hackney Free Secondary School
