Personal Profile - David - Icknield School

David was one of the first students to be involved in the Anton Lakes project. He had been as quiet as a mouse at school but the project brought him out. He felt valued, knowing much more clearly what he is good at. His confidence in groups developed, he became more sociable and his conversation improved greatly. As he tackled different tasks so he became more articulate.

One of his talents is with animals - he is quite fearless, loves them and is happy with anything from rabbits and birds to llamas. The project helped him to know right from wrong and work experience at a local country farm park helped him to know his path. He developed reliability and responsibility - his attendance was 100%.

The outcome is that he is happily enrolled on a one year course at Sparsholt Agricultural College in Land and Animal Management (to NVQ level 2) which he seems likely to complete. He is now 20 years old. His aim is to be employed on a farm.

Staff at the school feel that he is altogether a more "worthy" citizen than he might have been without the special encouragement he found from his role in the project.
