The Goresbrook Park Project is a programme of primary school-community activities, centered around Goresbrook Park in Dagenham. The aim of the project is to engage children positively in the use of Goresbrook Park by creating links with schools and community partnerships to encourage children to develop an awareness of the environment and develop their understanding of difference within their current perception of living in a community. The primary partners in this project are Groundwork Hackney, plus the Arts and Advisory Service divisions of the borough´s Department of Education and Libraries.
The specific objectives are:
- To enable them to recognize similarity and difference between people through creative imagery and discussion
- To engage children in the process of recognizing the choices that will promote their health and well being
- To support children in understanding what factors make an environment positive and less positive, safe and unsafe
- To develop confidence and self esteem by creating opportunities for children to express their opinions through drama, visual art and crafts, media and in discussion about topical issues
- To set achievable goals for young people of all abilities
Individual replicable projects are being devised, which can be developed in accordance with each key stage 1 and 2 year group, depending on need and ability. The borough´s minimum essential standards in PSHE and Citizenship for Key stage 1 and 2 have been considered in relation to each project idea. Schools around the park will be encouraged to undertake some of these activities, according to what fits in with school´s PSHE and Citizenship Scheme of Work. The project is funded through the Education and Outreach strand of A13 Artscape. |
