The objective of Barking and Dagenhams Volunteer Mentor Scheme is to remove barriers to learning and personal/ social development and to encourage young people to raise their aspirations, so that they remain in a learning environment and/ or full time employment. The scheme is intended to support and supplement the work of the Learning Mentors that have been employed as part of the Excellence in Cities programme to guide learning, and is lead by the Link Learning Mentor for EiC.
Four schemes are currently being developed i.e. volunteer, business, sport personality and intergenerational mentoring schemes, which will be piloted with Barking and Dagenham Training Services over the next two years. The setting up, implementation and accreditation of these schemes is carried out in partnership with a wide variety of organisations including the Education Business Partnership, Barking and Dagenham Training Services, Community Inspection and Advisory Service, All Change Project and National Mentoring Network. A steering group of representatives guide the projects. |
