Community Forums are seen as the major vehicle for engaging and listening to the local community. They are open public meetings held every quarter aimed at fostering good relations with local people, interest groups and businesses, and promoting increased dialogue on local issues. There are 6 Community Forums in Barking and Dagenham, which each cover 3 wards. All Members of the public are invited along to share their views, e.g. on the services provided by the Council and its partners, new policies and plans and local issues in general and action is then taken in response.
The borough is looking at increasing the participation of young people in the forums. This is achieved using projects, such as the Youth Forum, partnerships such as the Community Priority sub-groups and funding streams such as the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
