MV2 Millennium Volunteers is a Government initiative facilitated locally by London Youth, aimed at non-profit-making organisations and 16-24 year-olds.
Young people sign up to a community organisation for 200 hours of volunteering and in return receive a certificate at 100 hours and a recognised accredited award at 200 hours. They also receive travel expenses and a lunch allowance if in placement for full days. There are other perks such as social gatherings and freebies, support and advice. As an MV, you volunteer your time to help others, doing what you enjoy. In short, you use what you´re into to help yourself and others. Barking and Dagenhams MV2 officer actively recruits and supports young people in the scheme, and links with other borough projects to provide accreditation for volunteering.
