The Standards Fund remains the Governments main channel for targeting funds towards national priorities to be delivered by LEAs and schools. This includes funding for major initiatives such as the literacy and numeracy strategies, Excellence in Cities (EiC), the National Grid for Learning (NGfL), capital support for schools, and other programmes. The total Standards Fund (DfES grant plus LEA contributions) in 2002-2003 will be some £3.6 billion, as compared with £3.1billion in 2001-2002 current year. LEA contributions will be around £880 million.
Under the 2002-03 programme, several grant allocations in particular relate to the development of school-community partnerships namely, Citizenship, Teenage Pregnancy Strategy and Study Support. The management, allocation and monitoring of the Standards Fund Grant for Local Authority Youth Work, falls under the umbrella of the Transforming Youth Work Development Fund for 2002-2003.
