The Community Priorities adopted by the council, sets out how the council is planning to improve the borough of Barking and Dagenham for everyone who lives, works or visits here. The Leader of the Council, Councillor Charles Fairbrass emphasises that "The community priorities are not just words" and that they will "help us to shape our future policies." He adds that council will be "working with public sector partners ... voluntary groups and local businesses to co-ordinate action on these Priorities".
The Community Priorities for Barking and Dagenham are:
- Promoting equal opportunities and celebrating diversity.
- Making Barking and Dagenham cleaner, greener and safer.
- Better education and learning for all.
- Developing rights and responsibilities with the local community.
- Improving health housing and social care.
- Raising general pride in the Borough.
- Regenerating the local economy.
